Frequently asked questions

Is Darang free to use?

Yes. The Community Edition is free for commercial and personal use. Every feature—the visual ERD studio, schema builder, notebooks, dashboards, live insights, and the bring-your-own-key AI assistant—is unlocked out of the box, for all four supported databases.

How does Zero-Knowledge Encryption protect my database credentials?

Darang encrypts all sensitive connection details (passwords, SSH keys, SSL certificates) on your local machine using AES-256-GCM prior to saving or syncing. Encryption keys are stored in your operating system credentials vault (macOS Keychain / Windows Credential Manager). Decryption occurs exclusively in your desktop client process.

Why doesn't the UI freeze during large query execution?

Darang spawns isolated Electron Utility Processes via the WorkerProxyAdapter. Database TCP socket connections and heavy SQL execution run completely off the main renderer thread, keeping your UI at a smooth 60 FPS even when executing queries over millions of rows.

Can I use Darang offline without an internet connection?

Absolutely. Darang is architected offline-first. Your documents, notebook cells, query histories, tab sessions, and schema caches are persisted locally in SQLite (`better-sqlite3`). When internet access is restored, optional Cloud Sync will automatically reconcile changes.

Which operating systems are supported?

Darang is cross-platform and natively packaged for Windows (64-bit installer), macOS (Apple Silicon M-series and Intel), and Linux (AppImage & .deb packages).
